Training
Do you need to organise some training for practitioners?
I offer specific tailor made training packages ranging from 1/2 day to 2 days on:
- Counselling clients who are blind or partially sighted
I worked as a senior counsellor for the RNIB developing a counselling project for people affected by sight loss issues, whilst there I developed a toolkit for counsellors working with clients who are visually impairedthe publication "Different Horizons: counselling people who are blind or partially sighted" is available from www.rnib.org.uk
My book 'Songs at Twilight: A Narrative exploration of living with a Visual Impairment is available from www.c-s-p.org.uk
I also offer short talks and presentations to non-counsellors regarding the emotional impact of sight loss, again tailored to the needs of the audience:
- Working with suicidal clients
Over the last decade I have taken referrals for people who use self-harm and suicidal thoughts as ways of managing extreme psychological pain. I offer training to counsellors who often feel de-skilled and terrified when their clients thoughts turn to suicide.
My book entitled: "Where angels fear to tread: having conversations about suicide in a counselling context" is available now - further details are available from www.c-s-p.org.uk.
- Narrative practices
I have actively been involved with both narrative therapy and narrative research projects since 2008, and offer taylor made packages to groups who would like to know more, or become involved with narrative therapy or research. I also offer training to student counselling courses on narrative approaches to therapeutic work, and to research students involved at Masters Level training on narrative research methodology.
